Project overview

BB7 were appointed to produce a coordinated Fire Risk Management Strategy (FRMS) framework for the multiple organisations that operate out of City Square, Dundee.

Project Scope

The City Square complex comprises of the Caird and Marryat Halls, the Council Chambers and Offices of various Departments of the Council as well as commercial premises. Designed by the Dundee City Architect, James Thomson. The foundation stone was laid by King George V and Queen Mary in 1914, though not completed until 1923 due to the outbreak of World War I. The Caird Hall building is a large modern, classical design constructed using a reinforced concrete frame, with 10 double height Doric columns facing onto the City Square.

The BB7 response

The BB7 team attended site to meet with the responsible person of each organisation to discuss their fire safety procedures and systems in order to create an organised, overarching document for the management to follow. The FRMS was a means of demonstrating the fire safety policy translated into action to ensure the risk to people and the business is reduced as far as reasonably practicable. Along with meeting the legislative requirements.

Benefits of service

Organising and liaising with the different organisations within City Square was a challenge for the client to align the different procedures and systems. As such, BB7 were able to formulate a robust document that accounted for all. As a result of this project and a good working relationship, BB7 were able to assist the client on a number of other projects.
