7 Questions with Demi Finch - Legal Risk Executive at BB7

Welcome to 7 Questions with BB7, our interview series celebrating the incredible people behind the business. Each edition gives you the chance to really get to know our team as they share their career journeys, day-to-day experiences, and a few words of wisdom.

In this edition, I caught up with Demi Finch, our Legal Risk Executive, who is passionate about keeping people safe and compliant, both within the business and for the wider public we serve.

1. What led you to pursue a career in legal, and how did your path bring you to BB7?
I’ve always had a strong interest in problem-solving, structured thinking, and helping others navigate complex challenges – which naturally led me toward a career in law. Over the years, I’ve gained experience in commercial litigation, contract law, and compliance, which gave me a solid foundation for supporting businesses in regulated industries. Joining BB7 felt like a natural progression – combining my legal background with a mission-driven consultancy that prioritises safety and compliance.

2. What does your role as a Legal Risk Executive typically involve, and how does it support the wider consultancy?
My role involves analysing, drafting, and negotiating contracts, identifying, and managing legal risks, and ensuring compliance with relevant laws and industry regulations. I also support colleagues with legal queries, provide training, and liaise with external solicitors when needed. It’s about protecting the business while enabling teams to operate confidently and securely within their commercial frameworks.

3. What do you find most rewarding about working in legal within the fire safety industry?
What I find most rewarding is the opportunity to apply legal knowledge in a highly specialised and impactful sector. Fire safety is about prevention and protection, and being part of the legal team means I get to support that mission by ensuring we operate responsibly and compliantly. It’s a unique area where legal work directly contributes to safer buildings and communities, which gives real meaning to the day-to-day challenges.

4. What are some of the common legal or contractual risks you help the business navigate?
I frequently manage risks related to liability, indemnity, insurance, and payment terms. I also help ensure we’re protected from scope creep, unfair contract terms, and potential disputes. A big part of my role is reviewing commercial contracts to balance legal risk with practical business needs.

5. How do you stay up to date with regulatory and legal changes that impact the industry?
I subscribe to legal updates, attend webinars, and follow regulatory bodies relevant to both law and fire safety. Being part of a small legal team also means we regularly discuss new developments and share insights internally to stay ahead of changes that could affect our projects.

6. As a woman working in a legal role, have you faced any challenges or found opportunities that you’d like to share?
There have definitely been moments where I’ve had to assert my voice in male-dominated environments, especially early in my career. However, I’ve also found great support and mentorship from both women and men in the industry. BB7 has been empowering in that regard, and I’ve grown significantly in both confidence and capability since joining.

7. What advice would you give to those considering a career in legal risk or compliance, especially within a consultancy like BB7?
Be curious and proactive – understanding both the legal landscape and the business you’re advising is key. It’s also important to communicate clearly and pragmatically. In a consultancy environment like BB7, being approachable and solutions-focused helps you build trust and make a real impact.

A huge thank you to Demi for taking the time to share her journey and insights into legal risk at BB7. Her thoughtful, solutions-focused approach plays a vital role in supporting our consultancy and the work we do. She’s certainly one to watch, and we’re excited to see where her career takes her next.
