7 Questions with Charlotte Warner - Credit Controller at BB7

Welcome to 7 Questions with BB7, our interview series celebrating the incredible people behind BB7. Each edition gives you the chance to really get to know our team as they share their career journeys, day-to-day experiences, and words of wisdom.

In this edition, I had the pleasure of catching up with Charlotte Warner, one of our credit controllers who joined BB7 straight after finishing school. Read on as she shares her journey into the world of finance, her top tips for aspiring credit controllers, and her proudest moment to date.

1. What led you to pursue a career in credit control, and how did you find your way to BB7?

I had the opportunity to complete a week’s worth of work experience at BB7, during which I spent time with various departments. When I heard of a job vacancy in the finance department, I was just finishing my A levels, and I knew I would enjoy working in such a welcoming and positive team.

2. What does a typical day look like for you?

A typical day involves allocating and posting received payments, responding to client queries regarding their invoices, and following up on outstanding debts.

3. What skills do you think are essential for success in credit control?

I believe that effective communication, confidence, and problem-solving skills are essential for a successful career in credit control.

4. How do you approach building good relationships with clients while managing overdue accounts?

I build good relationships with clients by ensuring I provide clear and concise information. I always try to be as polite and understanding as possible, whilst also maintaining boundaries and expectations with overdue accounts.

5. What has been your proudest moment or biggest achievement in your career so far?

My proudest moment is working collectively as a team to collect two million in cash receipts in December, this was especially important as I had only been working with the team for four months. To achieve such a high amount of money after only working there for such a short period of time showcases how supportive the team is.

6. What do you find most rewarding and most challenging about your role?

The most rewarding aspect of my role is receiving positive news from clients that their debts are going to be paid. However, the most challenging is dealing with complex queries with urgency to ensure payments can be processed.

7. What advice would you give to someone considering a career in credit control or finance?

My advice to someone considering a career in credit control or finance would be to ensure you find ways to manage your workload, as it can be fast paced. You will need to be proficient in communicating effectively with both your clients and your team. If you enjoy investigating and problem-solving, then a role in credit control would be well suited to you!

A huge thank you to Charlotte for taking the time to share her story and give us a glimpse into life as a credit controller at BB7.
