Project overview
BB7 were appointed by Hurley Palmer Flatt to provide Fire strategy support over RIBA 2-4, including CFD Modelling.
Project scope
The LaLit London (managed by The Lalit) opened in 2017 and operates 70 rooms. At the time BB7 were instructed to work on the project, ‘GHI The Lalit’ was a proposed Hotel in Tooley Street, London. The existing building was centrally located a few hundred metres from Tower Bridge. The Building was the former St Olave’s School and is a Grade 2 listed building. Now, the LaLiT London operates two restaurants, namely, Baluchi and The Terrac, three bars and a tea lounge.

The BB7 response
BB7 worked alongside the design team to provide a range of services, including CFD modelling, to provide a bespoke fire engineered solution to justify turning the old school boarding house into a modern prestigious hotel. This was challenging as the listed nature of the building meant the design team were restricted with what could be altered or installed, however, BB7 were able to demonstrate that the life safety requirements could be achieved.
Benefits of service
Through good engineering and guidance, BB7 were able to provide expert services to successfully navigate the project, in terms of conflicts of the regulations and the restrictive listed building status, to support the client and design team.
The BB7 team were recognised for their communication with the client and relevant stakeholders to ensure client objectives were fulfilled.
