Security Engineer

Job Overview

The role of the security engineer is to work with investors, designers, developers, and end users to identify and manage security risks facing our clients’ assets, reputation, and to enable business resilience and continuity. They are expected to work alongside design teams and client teams to capture stakeholder requirements for security designs that build upon any previously developed security strategies. Security engineers are expected to develop strategic security designs into technical information and documentation expected at RIBA stages 3 & 4, to a level of design at which the tendering and construction documentation processes are able to be progressed.

Additionally, security engineers will be expected to undertake roles in RIBA stage 5, a construction stage, in which support and supervision on behalf of the client may be required for the installation and commissioning of security measures by third parties.

  • Have a clear understanding of modern development environments;
  • Can demonstrate a sound understanding of the common vulnerabilities affecting modern developments in the built environment;
  • Can demonstrate exceptional communication skills, with a talent for conveying highly technical security concepts to colleagues of technical and non-technical backgrounds;
  • Work well within design teams of various sizes with often competing demands;
  • Use initiative to progress design tasks;
  • Are able to represent the company through demonstrated skill, integrity, and quality
  • Undertake extensive research where required to better understand design elements; and
  • Understand commercial drivers and processes both internally and externally.

Role Requirements

Key requirements for a security engineer include the following:

  • Ability to coordinate and communicate within small or large project design teams, ensuring security requirements are taken into consideration throughout all stages of the design process
  • Generation of detailed security design information, including 2D & 3D security design drawings in applications such as AutoDesk AutoCAD & AutoDesk Revit
  • Able to put together 2D schematics / line drawings indication interconnectivity between physical security elements
  • Undertake data network / IP network design tasks to allow for suitable functionality of the required technical security systems
  • Understand power & data requirements for proposed security systems, coordinating this information within the project design team
  • Ability to develop comprehensive system specifications, in line with current industry developments, standards and best practices

The candidate

The candidate would ideally have a minimum 4 years’ experience working in a Security engineering role and have a recognised security qualifications or strong experience in the fields. Very good interpersonal skills and demonstrable experience of developing and maintaining close links with colleagues, clients and contractors are essential. The role will attract a competitive salary, dependent on experience, with generous holiday entitlement and a good working environment. In addition, we have a discretionary profit share scheme.
