A Graduate Fire Engineer is a new entrant into the fire engineering industry tasked with the job of enhancing their own knowledge to help further the company’s standing in the industry and supporting the rest of the engineering team. The main function of a Graduate Fire Engineer is to learn and develop their own skills within the industry to be a successful supporting member of the team. You must enhance your knowledge in fire design legislations and prescriptive guidance such as Building Regulations, Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, Approved Document B, BS 9991 and BS 9999.
In the early stages of project design, your role as a Graduate Fire Engineer comprises of ensuring that the Project Design Team is aware of the implications that their decisions have on the fire safety strategy of the building. This may require an in depth analyses of the design, which could include Computational Fluid Dynamics, smoke layer calculations or evacuation modelling, depending on the situation.
