The Professional Advisory Board – 2024 Recap
Our Professional Advisory Board in BB7 meet monthly to discuss the key technical topics and challenges in our industry. It is made up of some of our most experienced and knowledgeable experts.
One of its key jobs is to help prioritise the work of our 4 Technical Networks who are tasked with developing our capability and knowledge to address the current and emerging needs of our clients and building users.
Below are some of the key tasks each of our Technical Networks has been working on recently.
Fire Safety Design (FSD)
• BSA Gateway 2 & 3 and interactions with BSR: preparation, templating and knowledge sharing
• Report and Drawing Templating; updating contents and developing template generation tools to produce a companywide technically excellent and consistent approach
• Producing guidance notes on how to address some of the key issues affecting the everyday delivery of fire strategies. Recent topics include evacuation lifts, core layout and design in residential buildings.
• Preparing comprehensive checklists and guidelines with associated training for our engineers on how to carry out reviews of detailed Technical Designs and Subcontractor submittals.
Assurance & Risk Management (ARM)
• Roll out of our new inspection software, associated templates and checklists so that we can issue industry leading inspection observations in real time to our clients and contractors
• Rolling out training and CPD on Modern Methods of Construction such as Timber Frame, LGS and modular
• Guidance on how to produce a retrospective fire strategy
• FRAEW training and development
Fire Safety Engineering (FSE)
• Developing and growing our team of Structural Fire Engineers
• Developing and growing our team of CFD engineers and their output
• Digitalisation of our service offers
Specialist Consultancy (SC)
• Access Consultancy: Updating our Access templates to address changes to guidance
• Façade Engineering: Templating and process development to standardise our approach and provide our clients with a fully integrated multidiscipline service.
