We are often asked about the origins of the name BB7. Ben Bradford founded the firm on SEVEN guiding principles which describe what we want to embody and the unique character, spirit and identity that is BB7.

Our values provide inspiration and guidance for our people, shaping everything that we do. This shines through in all areas of our work – from recruitment and learning through to project delivery and innovation.  Our values are the bedrock of our culture.

Chairman

Our Chairman ensures that the board is effective in its task of setting and implementing the company’s direction and strategy. John has a track record of leading and growing ambitious consulting businesses in the property and construction sector.

Ben Bradford
Chief Executive Officer

Ben founded the company on seven values, he sets the tone, crafted the vision and nurtures a people focused culture. Holding dual professional status a Chartered Engineer and Chartered Surveyor the passion he has for the company and his profession is unmistakable.

Dominic Way
Regional Director

He's a Chartered Engineer with both national and international experience based in Glasgow, Scotland. Dom is conversant with national codes and standards in England and Scotland but also international codes such as NFPA, International Building Code (IBC) and Saudi Arabian Building Codes.

James Lane
Regional Director

James is a Chartered Engineer and Non-Exec Director on the Board of the Institution of Fire Engineers. As a member of British Standards Committee FSH/14 responsible for the BS 999 series and BS 7974, he has a sound understanding of the intent of standards. James is on the IFERG panel that interviews and registers Chartered Fire Engineers.

Mark Egan
Commercial Director

Mark has over 21 years of experience in the fire industry, working as a consultant fire safety engineer for the last 12 years. He's work nationally and internationally with time spent in New Zealand. He founded Omega Fire in 2009 and prior to working as a consultant he was previously a Fire Officer within Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service.

Mike Gilmartin
Regional Director

Yorkshire man, born and bred, Mike leads our office in Leeds. His approach is based on an understanding of the design objectives that include life safety, business continuity, property protection and risk assessments. He was an Associate Director at WSP before founding Omega Fire which was acquired by BB7.

Steve Michael
Regional Director

Steve leads our large team in Rochester, Kent. He's the ‘go-to’ guy in the office credited with mentoring many our people throughout their early careers. Having started his career at the GLC Building Regulations Division, he then worked in the London Fire Brigade, Fire Safety Department before joining Locke Carey. Steve manages our major projects.

William Ward
Regional Director

Chartered Engineer, William is based in Dublin and has developed and delivered fire strategies for buildings in Russia, Italy, Croatia, Belgium, The Netherlands, Turkey, Albania, Kazakhstan, Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Oman. William is also a visiting lecturer at Trinity College Dublin.

Dane Owen
Regional Director

Dane leads our large team in Manchester. He is focused on delivering innovative fire engineering and risk based solutions which are practical, efficient and cost effective to implement, achieving the general objective of adding value to the design without compromising the safety of the occupants.

Ray Quinn
Regional Director

Ray is a Chartered Engineer with demonstrable experience gained on projects throughout the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland. Based in Belfast he led the development of fire engineering strategies for a number of large schemes in Belfast’s Titanic Quarter including the iconic Titanic Belfast building.

Natalie Patterson-Fields
Finance Director

Natalie is the senior executive responsible for managing the financial actions of the company. Focused on strong planning and budgeting, careful management of cash flow, she ensures that the company’s financial reports are accurate and completed in a timely manner.

Linda Simmonds
HR Director

Linda drives our HR function, acquiring and managing the human resources required for long-term sustainable success. People focused, and career nurturing, her role also encompasses executive coaching, leadership development and succession planning.

Matt Simcox
Non-Exec Director

Matt represents our investor BGF on the Board. Matt is a Chartered Banker with an MSc in Management Science and has extensive M&A experience.

Professional Advisory Board
Purpose

Our Professional Advisory Board is a formal Committee within BB7’s management structure and it has a decision-making role. Its role is to advise our main Board on quality and innovation, focusing service portfolio, client portfolio, technical excellence and talent development. The board comprises of experts drawn from our nationwide offices.

Shane Ryan
Associate Director

With an electrical engineering background, complimented by a postgraduate Master of Science (MSc) in Fire and Explosion Engineering, Shane is a well respected Associate Director at BB7.  His experience as a consulting engineer spans residential, to commercial use and both national and international projects.

Ben Cooper
Commercial Lead

As a commercial leader, his role is to develop innovative and compelling commercial solutions, focusing on client service. He studied energy transfer and thermodynamics, probabilistic risk analysis, and fluid dynamics of fire, before furthering his academic qualifications at post graduate level by obtaining a masters degree in Fire Engineering. 

Michael Hubbard
Commercial Lead

Michael has brought his astute knowledge in listed buildings to offer unique building strategy and management experience to the team to not only offer compliance for challenging designs but also satisfying all stakeholders involved in renovation projects. His expertise in design and system installation is invaluable throughout life cycles of projects.

Prabin Limbu
Technical Lead

Prabin is our technical lead focused on strategic foresight research and innovation. He holds an undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering, and a postgraduate Masters degree in Fire Safety Engineering from the University of Central Lancashire.

Stuart Crick
Technical Lead

Stuart is focused on technical excellence, quality and innovation. He has worked on a large number of schemes throughout the country to develop engineered solutions to the satisfaction of the approvals bodies. His work has served to improve safety, permit greater flexibility and produce efficient, cost effective solutions to complex problems.

Richard is our digital transformation lead. He believes that technology can improve people's lives around the world, if integrated and used correctly and that through application of intelligent design and implementation we can reduce the negative impact of developments within the built environment.

Shauna is one of our talent leads. A practicing engineer that contributes to our thinking around recruiting, training and evaluation. At BB7 we imagine a better answer. Our people allow us to arrive there, and so we are dedicated to creating an environment where people with different backgrounds and skills can build a successful career.

Garry leads our work on external wall fire safety which includes curtain walling, rain-screen cladding, masonry construction, over-cladding and cavity barriers.

John Rigby
Construction Lead

John is one of our construction leads and specialises on the process of inspecting and assessing the fire protection measures, during construction and/or installation against the relevant fire strategy and/or design information, ensuring that the installation and/or build standards are adequate.

Mandy is one of our Talent Development Leads. She's responsible for our internal career development training programs from online instruction, to mentoring and university partnerships, working closely with our commercial and technical leads she ensures we build skills and capabilities, nurture talent, share knowledge and facilitate careers.

John Horgan
Chairman

John has joined the board with the vision to consolidate our position as the leading fire and security advisory firm.

John is a civil engineer who built Cameron Taylor Limited, an engineering consultancy specialising in the UK property sector, over 30 years before selling the business to Scott Wilson Group plc in December 2006. He was subsequently appointed Group Managing Director for International Regions at Scott Wilson Group responsible for 4,500 staff from Australia, Asia Pacific, India, Middle East and continental Europe. After URS Corporation purchased Scott Wilson Group in 2010, he became Managing Director of the whole EMEA and India business in 2012 and, following the acquisition of URS Corporation by AECOM in 2014, John became deputy CEO for EMEA and India until the end of 2015. John then became a non-executive director of AECOM EMEA until December 2017 and also a non-executive director of Driver Group until February 2019.

John is now a Trustee of art foundation, The Bomb Factory and Chairman of Endeavour Multi Academy Trust.

He brings a wealth of experience to BB7 such as:

Ben Bradford
Chief Executive Officer

BB7’s people focused CEO is utterly approachable. He keeps in touch with as many people as possible and considers seeing people grow personally and professionally a business imperative.  He prides himself on knowing where each of his people are at in their career journey, and places a lot of weight on shaping, nurturing, and enforcing our values and culture.

Why the name BB7? Ben founded the company on SEVEN guiding principles. These are our values and they describe the unique character, spirit and identity that are embedded in BB7.  Ben is adamant that we must get this stuff right, because we do not want to be just another organisation.

Under Ben’s stewardship the firm now has a network of offices throughout the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland. He’s an MBA with significant board level experience in both commercial organisations and not for profit professional bodies. He was an executive Director in a multi-national fire engineering firm, a Non-Executive Director at the RICS and former President and Chairman of the board at the Chartered Association of Building Engineers. In 2019 he was appointed as a Non-Executive Director by the Mayor of London as part of the Skills for Londoners, Business Partnership.

He studied Building Surveying, Building Engineering and holds duel professional status a Chartered Engineer and Chartered Surveyor and the passion he has for the company and his profession is unmistakable. For Ben it’s all about purpose, it’s not enough to simply practice engineering or risk management; he aims to make a significant contribution to the development of these professions.  He understands that to be a professional we must contribute to the public good.

Dominic Way
Regional Director

Dominic is a Chartered Fire Engineer and the director of the Glasgow office which serves the whole of Scotland as well as supporting other offices throughout the rest of the UK and Ireland.

Having worked at three different consultancies over a 16 year period, Dominic has a broad and sound knowledge of fire engineering within the construction industry in both existing buildings and as part of a design team for new developments.

He was the third person to join BB7 and has therefore seen it grow and develop in the last decade. He has lived the mission, vision and values throughout this period.

His years of experience have given him a broad base of both fire engineering and fire risk management. Dominic originally started his career specialising in CFD and smoke control, which provided him with a good grasp of fire engineering principles. He has also served on committees including British Standards.

He has experience in England, Scotland and the Middle East and has worked with NFPA, IBC and Saudi Arabia Building Codes.

Landmark projects include ‘One New Change’, ‘Marble Arch Place’ and part of the team who he was part of the team who worked on the ‘Dubai Metro’ ventilation systems.

Outside work Dominic loves the adventure of life and is most happy hiking the hills, camping with everything he needs packed into a backpack or panniers.

James Lane
Regional Director

James joined BB7 as Head of Fire Safety Engineering and is responsible for the fire consultancy services within the Fire Engineering group. He comes from a background of developing fire safety strategies for compliance with standard guidance and engineered solutions for non-standard designs, including means of escape, smoke and fire spread calculations and firefighting access provisions.

In 1990, James began his career in fire safety as a test engineer at the Stratford, East London facility of Warrington Fire Research Centre (WFRC, now Warrington Exova). Starting with room leak integrity tests for Halon flooding systems, he moved to flame spread and cable fire resistance testing as well as small scale toxicity testing.

After graduating with a BEng (Hons) degree in Fire Safety Engineering in 1996, James moved into fire consultancy with Arup Fire where he produced fire strategies on a wide spectrum of buildings including the proposed Victoria and Albert museum Spiral extension and the iconic Sage music venue in Gateshead with Fosters architects. He broadened his fire consultancy experience working to produce fire strategies and fire engineered solutions for a wide range of building types after moving to a small independent practice, Tenos, before accepting an Associate Director position with SAFE fire consultants, part of the Whitby Bird group and now Rambol Fire.

In May 2008 James was invited by Hilson Moran to expand their existing fire system design skill base to include fire consultancy and fire engineering as their Principal Fire Consultant.

Mark Egan
Commercial Director

Mark has over 21 years of experience in the fire industry, working as a consultant fire safety engineer for the last 12 years. Prior to working as a consultant he was previously a Fire Officer within Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service.

He is a former Chairman of the Lancashire Group of the Institution of Fire Engineers and has worked extensively to promote learning and discussion among industry professionals. Mark has worked on a wide range of projects across many sectors both in the UK and internationally. He focuses on delivering innovative fire engineering solutions which are practical, efficient and cost effective to implement.

Mark built up Omega Fire Engineering Limited over a 10 year period from three staff to 35 along with two business partners. Omega Fire had a reputation for high quality Fire Engineering work, expertise experience and efficiency. They were acquired by BB7 Group Limited, with backing from BGF, in 2019.

He is a fire engineering and fire risk assessment specialist and his well-rounded knowledge of all aspects of the industry allow him to take a pragmatic view of fire safety from a range of perspectives. He is able to identify and view issues from the point of view of the relevant stakeholders and recommend control measures and timescales which are the most practical in terms of reducing risk and limiting expenditure.

Mike Gilmartin
Regional Director

Mike has over 18 years’ extensive experience as a Fire Engineer working with organisations and regulatory authorities, with particular emphasis on developing fire engineering strategies using both traditional guidance documents and a performance-based approach.

Mike also has considerable experience in fire risk assessments and has completed many risk assessments and audits on a national and international basis. Mike was also a founding partner and director at Omega Fire. Mike’s ability to deliver a holistic fire engineering strategy includes comprehensive practical experience underpinned by wide-ranging technical skills that include fire dynamics, (combustion theory, fire development, smoke movement and computer modelling), evacuation analysis, (human behaviour, management procedures and computer modelling), structural analysis, due diligence and risk assessments.
Mike’s approach is based on an understanding of the design objectives that include life safety, business continuity, property protection and risk assessments. He is highly experienced in providing tailored fire safety solutions to a range of different buildings, maintaining focus on the client’s objectives to ensure that the financial, aesthetic and functional aspirations of each scheme are met whilst ensuring an appropriate level of fire safety is maintained.

Steve Michael
Regional Director

Steve has significant fire safety and Building Regulations knowledge which is why he is the right man to head BB7’s major projects. His experience enables him to provide cost effective solutions for our clients, reducing approval risk with efficiency and increasing certainty during the design phase.

Steve’s the ‘go-to’ guy in the office credited with mentoring many our people throughout their early careers.
He started his long career at the Greater London Council Building Regulations Division. He progressed from here to a successful career in the London Fire Brigade, Fire Safety Department. He gained a further 14 years’ experience here and reached the recognised rank of Station Officer (non-operational). He was involved in some prestigious projects during this period and became involved in a number of larger Section 20 developments, including the Tate Modern Gallery and GLA building. Prior to joining BB7, Steve was the Fire Engineering Manager at a large multi-national fire engineering consultancy and headed their major projects including the planning development stage at 20 Fenchurch Street. At BB7 Steve heads a number of our major projects.

William Ward
Regional Director

William joined BB7 in 2017 to lead our business in Ireland and currently leads the Dublin Office. William previously worked for Arup for over 10 years. William holds a BSc and an MSc in Fire Engineering from Letterkenny Institute of Technology and the University of Ulster respectively.

He has in excess of 15 years’ experience which has been earned managing fire related projects in Ireland, the UK and throughout the world. William has developed and delivered fire strategies for buildings in Russia, Italy, Croatia, Belgium, The Netherlands, Turkey, Albania, Kazakhstan, Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Oman.

William has experience in all general building types (commercial, retail, hotels, residential, education, etc.) but has also gained experience in areas of specialised fire engineering which include stadiums, airports and tunnels.

William also enjoys inspecting existing buildings and those under construction. He has carried out numerous inspections on behalf of building owners, operators, managers, vendors and prospective purchasers.  William is a Chartered Engineer with Engineers Ireland and the Institution of Fire Engineers with whom he also is a member of the Irish Branch council and performs the role of membership secretary.
enjoys speaking at conferences and is a visiting lecturer at Trinity College Dublin.

Dane Owen
Regional Director

Dane is the Regional Director for Manchester with over 15 years’ experience in the industry after graduating from Leeds University with a First Class Honours Degree in Fire Engineering.

Following Danes initial years at a large international multi-disciplinary consultancy, he, along with Mark Egan and Mike Gilmartin set up Omega Fire Engineering Ltd in 2009. Dane, Mark and Mike grew the Omega team to 30 staff before being acquired in April 2019 by BB7 Group.
Dane has worked on a wide range of large and complex projects across numerous sectors. His detailed understanding of fire engineering principles and experience in evacuation and structural fire protection analysis has enabled Dane to work on some of the largest UK and International projects.
Dane is focused on delivering innovative fire engineering and risk based solutions which are practical, efficient and cost effective to implement, achieving the general objective of adding value to the design without compromising the safety of the occupants.
Dane specialises in staff development and RIBA 4 and 5 works having spent much of his career working with main contractors and attending site.

Ray Quinn
Regional Director

Ray Quinn is a Director with BB7 specialising in fire safety engineering. For 20 years Ray has been providing fire safety engineering advice throughout the UK and Ireland with his early career spent in London.

Ray has provided fire engineering advice on a wide range of complex projects including mixed use developments, airport terminals, shopping centres, large healthcare and educational premises, high rise offices, apartments, hotel developments, historic buildings and large distribution warehousing. Ray has also provided specialist advice on the incorporation of atria in buildings.
Most recently, Ray has led the development of the fire engineering strategies on the new world class Cavendish III Physics Laboratories at Cambridge University (~£300M) and the new National Maternity Hospital in Dublin (~€300M). Ray also led the development of fire engineering strategies for a number of large schemes in Belfast’s Titanic Quarter including the iconic Titanic Belfast building (~£100M).
Ray has lectured on Human Behaviour in Fire, Fire Dynamics, Smoke Control in Complex Buildings, Fire Safety Engineering and Principles of Fire Safety in Healthcare Premises. He has been a part time lecturer in Fire Engineering Design at University of Ulster’s MSc Fire Safety Engineering course since 2004. Ray is a Chartered Engineer and a member of Engineers Ireland and the Institution of Fire Engineers.

Natalie Patterson-Fields
Finance Director

Natalie first completed her AAT qualification before going on to complete the ACCA qualification to become a Chartered Accountant in March 2015. During this time Natalie worked at various SMES and larger organisations in different industries ranging from Insurance to Manufacturing to build up experience whilst studying.

Natalie started her career book keeping learning the basics of Finance working her way forward into the current role of Finance Director for BB7 Group Ltd.
Natalie joined BB7 in May 2017 and has developed the Finance Department since joining implementing processes and procedures. BB7 has experienced significant growth during this time and as such the finance department has had to evolve and expand to cater for this growth. Within the 2 and a half years Natalie has been here she has overseen the growth of the finance team from 1 to 6. She has also sophisticated the finance department by upgrading the Accounting Software at the start of 2019.

Linda Simmonds
HR Director

Linda joined BB7 in May 2016 and began formalising HR within the business working closely with the CEO to embed the company values and vision. Since then HR at BB7 has remained focused on our number one value – People.

Linda continues her dedication on acquiring and managing the human resources function required for long-term sustainable success within BB7. In addition to traditional resource planning, recruiting and retention strategies, her role also encompasses executive coaching, leadership development and succession planning.

Our passionate people are what makes the company succeed and focusing on their engagement, wellbeing and enjoyment at work remains our focus, enabling our culture to thrive.

Linda’s role includes being an ambassador for workforce spending, who can demonstrate the benefits by impact on ROI. She is able to analyse human capital data and industry trends to guide recommendations on company policy. She enjoys building culture to improve employee retention, as well as aid in talent acquisition.

Linda continues to facilitate and build relationships to access new talent pools and lead change management efforts as they relate to human capital.

Linda will drive HR in the coming years, bringing the team with her into new and innovative ways of working and growing, embarking on campaigns and ideas to further support our people in their career journeys.

Matt Simcox
Non-Exec Director

Matthew joined the BB7 board in April 2019 and represents our investor BGF on the board of several portfolio companies

Matthew joined BGF in October 2018 to support the growing portfolio. Prior to BGF, Matthew worked at Caird Capital, a UK mid-market private equity firm, where he managed equity investments across a range of sectors, working alongside investee teams to deliver a number of successful transactions.  He began his career at Bank of Scotland and Lloyds Banking Group where he held various principal investment and leveraged finance roles before joining Caird in 2010.

Matthew holds an MSC in Management Sciences from Loughborough University and is a Chartered Banker. He is married with three small children, who he spends most of his time outside work trying to keep up with.

Its role is to advise members of the Board on technical matters, and its decisions are to be presented to our main board for approval.  The attendees for each meeting are chosen from around the business, based on technical expertise and interest in the subject matter of the meeting. We also invite external stakeholders such as clients, insurers, academics and subject matter experts as appropriate.

Its overall purpose is to support and provide expert knowledge and experience to ensure we remains at the forefront of the profession and that we realise our vision to become the wisest player in the markets in which we choose to operate.

Shane Ryan
Associate Director

Shane manages a large team in our Rochester office, undertaking complex engineering studies utilising computational fluid dynamics, zone modelling and fire engineering calculations. He is a seasoned project leader working through all seven RIBA stages and a proven negotiator with approving authorities.

Ben Cooper
Commercial Lead

Youthful, diverse, energetic and bursting with character; Yorkshire-man born and bred, Ben is the embodiment of our northern cities.  Manchester and Leeds are two of the most exciting places in the United Kingdom to visit and Ben has played his part in shaping them from a fire safety perspective during the last decade.

Ben graduated from the University of Central Lancashire (UCLAN) with a 1st Class BEng Hon’s in Fire Engineering.   UCLAN is a recognised Centre of Excellence for fire safety engineering and their research centre in Fire and Hazards Science is second to none. He studied energy transfer and thermodynamics, probabilistic risk analysis, and fluid dynamics of fire, before furthering his academic qualifications at post graduate level by obtaining a masters degree in Fire Engineering.  With over six years experience as a consulting engineer, Ben has demonstrated his enthusiasm, drive and commitment to to his career and the profession, by developing the professional competence required to submit his full registration as a Chartered Engineer.

Michael Hubbard
Commercial Lead

Michael is a technical leader with 6 years of expert knowledge across the breadth of fire engineering. Drawing on a wealth of project experience, he can provide specialist fire engineering support on bespoke strategies undertaking tailored and complex solutions to both design and system-specific aspects of a project.

Starting his career from the University of Central Lancashire, Michael showed a great interest in the practical elements of system design and installation and begun to develop his specialisms within fire strategies, project management, and in particular, smoke ventilation systems. He led bespoke major projects within his team in a large fire consultancy which also offered system design and installation for detection, sprinkler and smoke ventilation systems. Through technical excellence and a drive to seamless consultancy, Michael bridged the service between design and construction for clients across his portfolio. He developed his skill set working in all areas of the construction sector including the high-specification Regents Crescent project and the Moxy Hotel brand.

Moving into BB7, Michael now extends his project-management into expert witness projects, transport infrastructure and investment analysis. In a specific project such as the prestigious Courtauld Institute of Art, Michael has brought his astute knowledge in listed buildings to offer a unique building strategy and management programme to not only offer compliance for a challenging design but also satisfy the number of stakeholders involved in the renovation project.

Prabin Limbu
Technical Lead

Prabin is a Senior Fire Engineer at BB7 who joined in 2016 as a Graduate Fire Engineer with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering. During his time at university, he won two awards for outstanding performance among his peers. During his graduate development programme, Prabin took a keen interest in fire engineering principles, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modelling and structural fire engineering analysis.

With the support of BB7, Prabin completed a part time masters in Fire Safety Engineering where his dissertation project was assessing the impact of stack effect during winter conditions on performance of mechanical smoke ventilation systems in residential buildings. His day to day activities as Senior Fire Engineer range from working on fire strategy for complex multi-storey buildings to detailed structural fire engineering analysis to CFD modelling. Prabin has experience working on wide range of projects from residential to commercial office buildings to critical national infrastructures and can support project through all RIBA Stages. Apart from the commercial work, Prabin also takes an active role in identifying, leading, conducting and managing the research programme at BB7 which he ultimately wants to grow into a PhD by developing a partnership with a university. Prabin also mentors graduates and fire engineers on application on fire engineering principles and various software packages by running internal workshops.

Stuart Crick
Technical Lead

Stuart joined Omega Fire in 2014, working full time as an engineer alongside studying for his Masters. During this time, he gained significant experience in a variety of sectors including residential (student, private and PRS), commercial, healthcare, industrial, office, educational and more.

He originally specialised in computational fluid dynamics to analyse the effects of smoke movement, radiant heat and pollutant control. As the company grew, this developed to training others in this area which then became a separate team in its own right.
Stuart has worked on a large number of schemes throughout the country to develop engineered solutions to the satisfaction of the approvals bodies. His work has served to improve safety, permit greater flexibility and produce efficient, cost effective solutions to complex problems. He has addressed a wide range of requirements and specifications and has not been limited by traditional designs present in accepted guidance documents.
Stuart has been with the company for almost six years, progressing from Graduate, to Engineer, to Senior Engineer; now managing over 1/3rd of the Manchester office.
Stuart achieved a first-class bachelor’s degree in fire engineering and a master with distinction after studying the effects of combustion and fire, including chemistry, energy transfer and thermodynamics, construction design and safety, law, mathematics, physics and computation fluid dynamics.

Shauna Jameson
Talent Development Lead

Shauna graduated from Glasgow Caledonian University in 2015 with an undergraduate degree in Fire Risk Engineering and is currently studying a postgraduate masters degree at the Fire Safety Engineering Research and Technology Centre (FireSERT) at Ulster University.   Prior to joining BB7 she worked at one of the large multi-disciplinary engineering firms, and gained experience working throughout England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

She has worked on a range of projects including Schools, Offices, Industrial premises and Residential buildings providing advice on a range of fire engineering issues, including fire strategies, fire risk assessment and fire and smoke modelling. Shauna prides herself on her ability to clearly communicate with the client and design team.

Dr Garry White
External Wall Specialist

Garry has accrued in-depth knowledge and experience of external wall fire safety which includes designing fire safety for external walls from scratch and also includes over-cladding as-built buildings. He regularly presents fire topics around the country to disparate organisations including presentations on external wall fire safety topics.

Garry has a sound understanding of fire behavior attaining a doctorate in this field and is able to apply this to his approach on design solutions that meet the functional objectives of the Building Regulations. He has considerable experience in training others, having been a University lecturer in fire and explosion investigation and training military personnel in explosive handling and safety.

John Rigby
Construction Lead

John is a Chartered Building Surveyor, a Chartered Building Engineer and a member of the Institution of Fire Engineers who is client focused without compromising on fire safety.  He has extensive experience in residential, commercial, retail, leisure and education construction projects which includes new build, extensions and material change of use; working on projects up to the value of £200m.

Having changed his career path from Building Control into Fire Engineering he is able to use his Building Control experience to reduce approvals risks.  His on-site experience of inspecting projects during Stage 5 also means he is able to competently assess active and passive fire protection measures to ensure that the detailed fire strategy is being followed.

John is an RICS APC mentor for the Building Control pathway and has been a Career Mentor at Sheffield Hallam University.

Mandy Youssef
Talent Development Lead

Mandy joined BB7 as a graduate and was sponsored to further her postgraduate academic qualification. Alongside her day to day duties as an engineer, she is now one of our Talent Development Leads. She is responsible for our internal career development training programs from online instruction, to mentoring and university partnership. Mandy works closely with our Commercial and Technical Leads, where she ensures we build skills and capabilities, nurture talent, share knowledge and facilitate careers

Mandy holds a Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering and Masters in Fire and Explosion Engineering from University of Leeds. Her work includes production of fire strategies for residential and commercial developments,, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and in-depth external fire spread calculation.

Her work includes public developments such as hospitals and railway stations as well as private developments and multinational company work spaces and hotels. Mandy has worked on the Royal Marsden Cancer Hospital, Wellingborough railway station and The Minories, as well as improvements on Waterloo Station in London, to name a few. As part of her role, Mandy provides bespoke fire strategies tailored to her clients’ building needs whilst providing in-depth solutions and support throughout project development. Mandy is currently working towards her Chartered Fire Engineer status.
